The chambers is an innovative set established in June 1995 to take advantage of the relaxation of the Bar Council Rules, designed to make the Bar more accessible and competitive.
The chambers is professionally administered by Richard Sparrow LLB Barrister FCA. The absence of the traditional clerk puts the emphasis on the barristers to develop and handle their own practices, albeit within the context of the set. This enables solicitors and other professionals with direct access to contact the barrister of their choice and deal directly in all matters from the content of the case to the agreement of the fee. Direct contact between barrister and solicitor gives the latter a much greater control over the conduct of their client´s case, for instance by ascertaining directly the barrister´s relevant experience and availability.
The barristers are responsible for agreeing their fees. They therefore have a great deal of flexibility, allowing them to take into account the complexity of the case and the means of the lay client. Since the barrister does not pay a percentage of the fee to a clerk, fees are very competitive.
The chambers occupies excellent premises well situated close to the Law Society and the Royal Courts of Justice. It has a sizeable conference room specifically designated to its purpose. It has a telecommunications system which is constantly manned.
Each member was selected according to certain criteria and according to their suitability to the set and its philosophy. Members are selected on the basis of a good academic background coupled with a practical mind. Experience outside the Bar is regarded to be important in order that the members provide a service with understanding. The members specialise in a wide range of fields at all levels in courts throughout England and Wales. The chambers has strong links with Europe and deals with work as far afield as China.
The chambers does not discriminate against any type of work and undertakes Legal Aid work.
